AUSTIN - TEXPAC, the political advocacy arm of the Texas Medical Association (TMA), has endorsed Rep. Roberto Alonzo for reelection to Texas House District 104. TMA is Texas' largest physician organization.

"Representative Alonzo is a champion in the Texas Legislature for Dallas patients and physicians," said Manuel Acosta, MD, chair of the TMA Political Action Committee (TEXPAC) Board of Directors. "His legislative record proves that he is an effective patient advocate.

"During the 2007 legislative session, he worked with his colleagues to ensure that important medical care was available to uninsured children and adults. He supported House Bill 109, which restored Children's Health Insurance Program coverage for more than 120,000 children in low-income, working families. He also clearly understands the importance of wellness and prevention.

"We look forward to working with Representative Alzonzo again to improve the health care of all Texans," added Dr. Acosta, "because he shares TMA's desire for a health care system that puts health care decisions back into the hands of physicians and patients - instead of health insurers."

TEXPAC speaks on behalf of more than 43,000 Texas physicians and medical students, and nearly 8,000 alliance members. Organized in 1962, TEXPAC is one of the oldest political action committees in Texas. TEXPAC also is one of the largest bipartisan PACs in the state and ranks first in size among other state medical association PACs.
