Texas Physicians Endorse Rep. Kevin Bailey for Reelection to Texas House District 140
AUSTIN - TEXPAC, the political advocacy arm of the Texas Medical Association (TMA), has endorsed Rep. Kevin Bailey for reelection to Texas House District 140. TMA is Texas' largest physician organization. "Representative Bailey is a champion in the Texas Legislature for Houston patients and physicians," said Manuel Acosta, MD, chair of the TMA Political Action Committee (TEXPAC) Board of Directors. "His legislative record proves that he is an effective patient advocate." During the 2007 legislative session, Representative Bailey worked with his colleagues to ensure that important medical care was available to uninsured children and adults. He supported House Bill 109, which restored Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage for more than 120,000 children in low-income, working families. He also was integral to the legislature's efforts to reform the state's worker's compensation program. He worked hard so that injured workers could obtain clinically appropriate, cost-effective health care in a timely manner and within a reasonable geographic proximity. "We look forward to working with Representative Bailey again to improve the health care of all Texans," added Dr. Acosta. TEXPAC speaks on behalf of more than 43,000 Texas physicians and medical students, and nearly 8,000 alliance members. Organized in 1962, TEXPAC is one of the oldest political action committees in Texas. TEXPAC also is one of the largest bipartisan PACs in the state and ranks first in size among other state medical association PACs. - 30 - |
