Texas Physicians Endorse Rep. Jessica Farrar for Reelection to Texas House District 148
AUSTIN - TEXPAC, the political advocacy arm of the Texas Medical Association (TMA), has endorsed Rep. Jessica Farrar for reelection to Texas House District 148. TMA is Texas' largest physician organization. "Representative Farrar is steadfast in her support of the issues that matter most to Texas physicians and their patients," said Manuel Acosta, MD, chair of the TMA Political Action Committee (TEXPAC) Board of Directors. "Her legislative record proves that she is an effective patient advocate on behalf of her constituents. "During the 2007 legislative session, she worked with her colleagues to ensure that important medical care was available to uninsured children and adults. She supported House Bill 109, which restored Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage for more than 120,000 children in low-income, working families. She worked to shore up the Medicaid system so physicians can provide quality care to poor Texans. Moreover, she is a passionate advocate for preventative health measures, such as health screenings, immunizations, and patient education. Representative Farrar also understands that patients and physicians must have control of health care decisions. To this end, she supported legislation to increase the accountability, effectiveness, and efficiency of Texas' ailing health care system. "We look forward to working with Representative Farrar again to improve the health care of all Texans," added Dr. Acosta. " TEXPAC speaks on behalf of more than 43,000 Texas physicians and medical students, and nearly 8,000 alliance members. Organized in 1962, TEXPAC is one of the oldest political action committees in Texas. TEXPAC also is one of the largest bipartisan PACs in the state and ranks first in size among other state medical association PACs. - 30 - |
