Texas Physicians Endorse Rep. Pat Haggerty for Reelection to Texas House District 78
AUSTIN - TEXPAC, the political advocacy arm of the Texas Medical Association (TMA), has endorsed Rep. Pat Haggerty for reelection to Texas House District 78. TMA is Texas' largest physician organization. "Representative Haggerty is a champion in the Texas Legislature for El Paso patients and physicians," said Manuel Acosta, MD, chair of the TMA Political Action Committee (TEXPAC) Board of Directors. "He works hard to ensure Texans' hard-earned tax dollars are spent appropriately and wisely. "Throughout his career, Representative Haggerty's legislative record proves that he is an effective patient advocate," Dr. Acosta added. "During the 2007 legislative session, he worked with his colleagues to ensure that important medical care was available to uninsured children and adults. "He also shares Texas Medical Association's desire for a health care system where physicians aren't threatened daily with frivolous lawsuits; one that permits more time for patient care; and one that gets physicians out from under the crush of government, big insurance interference, and paperwork. "We look forward to working with Representative Haggerty again to improve the health care of all Texans," added Dr. Acosta. TEXPAC speaks on behalf of more than 43,000 Texas physicians and medical students, and nearly 8,000 alliance members. Organized in 1962, TEXPAC is one of the oldest political action committees in Texas. TEXPAC also is one of the largest bipartisan PACs in the state and ranks first in size among other state medical association PACs. - 30 - |
