AUSTIN - TEXPAC, the political advocacy arm of the Texas Medical Association (TMA), has endorsed Rep. Buddy West for reelection to Texas House District 81. TMA is Texas' largest physician organization.

"Representative West is a champion in the Texas Legislature for patients and physicians," said Manuel Acosta, MD, chair of the TMA Political Action Committee (TEXPAC) Board of Directors. "He consistently works hard to ensure Texas' hard-earned tax dollars are spent appropriately and wisely.

"His legislative record proves that he is an effective patient advocate," Dr. Acosta added. "During the 2007 legislative session, he worked hard to ensure that important medical care was available to rural patients and uninsured children.

"He also shares the Texas Medical Association's desire for a health care system that permits more time for patient care and gets physicians out from under the crush of government and big insurance interference and paperwork.

"We look forward to working with Representative West again to improve the health care of all Texans," Dr. Acosta said.

TEXPAC speaks on behalf of more than 43,000 Texas physicians and medical students, and nearly 8,000 alliance members. Organized in 1962, TEXPAC is one of the oldest political action committees in Texas. TEXPAC also is one of the largest bipartisan PACs in the state and ranks first in size among other state medical association PACs.
